Flaming Sword

Project Sword
Run By Anne J. Hill (and possibly someone else, TBD)

Theme: Dark Adult Medieval Fantasy short stories! Swords, magic, dragons, elves, etc. To keep the tone of the book consistent, we are looking for darker stories, which includes things like horror fantasy, dark fantasy, and the like. (It doesn't need to fall under horror or dark fantasy, but just pair nicely with those tones.) It must feature adult characters, for adult readers, set in a medieval-inspired setting, and be fantasy. Please no romance as the main plot. It can be in the story, but shouldn't be what the story hinges on. In other words, no dark romantasy please. (Bonus points if it's raw, gritty, and unnerving.)

Anthology Publishes: Date TBD, but it'll be at least two years from now so we have time to collect stories, edit, and market.

Genre: Adult Medieval Fantasy (No NA. Main characters should be in their upper 20s and older. Mature themes.)

Book Title: Not yet announced

Payment: Authors will get copies of the book at a discounted price. (A percent of royalties will go to charity, TBD.)

Word Count: Between 1,000 and 7,000 (if you send us something longer or shorter, we will still consider it, but it could hurt your chances)

We will send acceptances and rejections as stories come in. So the sooner you get your story submitted, the higher your chances are of getting accepted. (If you do not hear back from us within a month of submitting, please hang tight. We're getting to it.) â€‹

You can submit as many stories as you like.

Swearing and violence are acceptable, and we hold the right to edit out anything we deem excessive. (Don't be afraid to get gritty!) No smut allowed, but fade to black or closed door are acceptable.

Before submitting, read over all the guidelines here. If you have any questions, please review all of the guidelines one more time before reaching out, because chances are, the answer is already here.
